We worked with longtime friend and collaborator, chef and restauranteur Jesse Dunford Wood to create a new restaurant and bar in Kensal Rise. Taking over a vacant site, the brief was to maximise the potential of the footprint, using the outdoor space to the front of the property as well as creating a secret garden to the rear.

We made some minor alterations to the flow of the internal plan to create a new view through to the rear garden, as well as relocating the bar to the centre of the space to give the blank canvas of the restaurant a strong focal point. The idea driving the project was to create a new neighbourhood spot that would work well throughout the day and on into the evenings.

We were both keen to create a warm atmosphere and multifunctional space using found materials and reclamation yards, and we discovered some amazing Dutch stained glass windows that we though would be prefect to brighten up the deep plan space. We created a feature wall with these, that bring at atmospheric sun into the room by day or night. We created a new bar from a repurposed teak apothecary cabinet that had originally been in Sri Lanka. We resused decorative railings and other materials to craft simple furniture and the garden areas. The walls are hung with custom artworks from Jesse’s father to celebrate the seasons through the seasonal produce.
